Before you touch HubSpot, answer these 15 questions
I've seen companies spend 3 months implementing HubSpot only to restart because they skipped the foundation. This checklist prevents that.
Strategy readiness
- Can you describe your ideal customer in one paragraph? (Company size, industry, core challenge, budget)
- Do you have defined lifecycle stages that sales and marketing agree on?
- Is your pipeline mapped with clear stage definitions and exit criteria?
- Do you know your current CAC and target CAC?
- Have you documented your lead handoff process?
Data readiness
- Where does your customer data currently live? (List every system)
- Is it clean? (Duplicates removed, emails valid, companies normalized)
- Do you have a data owner who will maintain quality post-migration?
- Are your contact properties standardized or freeform?
- Do you have historical data you need to migrate? How far back?
Team readiness
- Who will be the HubSpot admin? (This person needs training)
- Will sales use HubSpot daily? (If not, the CRM will die)
- Do you have budget for onboarding/training?
- Is leadership committed to using CRM data for decisions?
- Do you have a 90-day success metric defined?
Scoring
12-15 yes: You're ready. Start implementation.
8-11 yes: Close, but fix the gaps first. 2-4 weeks of prep needed.
Under 8: Stop. Do the strategy work before touching the tool.
